How to fix pixelated video in CapCut

CapCut is popular because it makes editing fast, but the default export settings favor small files. If your finished video looks pixelated, it is nearly always one of three things: the export resolution, the bitrate option or the way you shared it afterwards.

The menu names change between app versions and between mobile and desktop, but the settings below exist in all of them.

  • Free preview, no signup
  • Files auto-deleted after 24 hours
  • Corrupted files are repaired automatically

What to check before you export

These settings do most of the work.

  • Resolution: choose 1080p for normal posts, or 2K/4K if your source footage is really that big. Exporting at 720p guarantees a soft result.
  • Frame rate: match your footage. 30 fps footage exported at 60 fps does not look better.
  • Bitrate or quality: pick the Higher or Recommended option over Lower. On desktop you can usually choose a specific bitrate.
  • Codec: H.264 is the safe choice. HEVC makes smaller files with similar quality but may not play everywhere.
  • Zoom and effects: keyframed zooms and heavy filters can make low-quality footage look worse. Zoom less, or use footage shot at higher resolution.

Sharing is where it breaks

Exporting at 4K and then uploading through the TikTok or Instagram share button hands your video to those platforms’ own compression. Save the file to your device first, and upload it from the platform’s own app with the high quality upload option turned on if there is one.

When you send clips on WhatsApp or Telegram, choose “send as file” or “document” to avoid recompression.

CapCut fix, step by step

  1. Open Export settingsTap the export button at the top right and open the settings for resolution, frame rate and bitrate before exporting.
  2. Raise resolution and qualityChoose 1080p or higher, the highest quality bitrate option, and keep the frame rate the same as your footage.
  3. Avoid heavy zoom on low-res clipsIf a clip is 720p, zooming more than about 120 percent will visibly soften it.
  4. Save to device, then uploadSave the exported video to your gallery rather than using direct share, then upload from the platform app.
  5. Clean a video that is already blockyUpload the exported file here. We will deblock, denoise, upscale and sharpen, and you will see a free watermarked preview first.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my CapCut video pixelated after exporting?

Usually the resolution or bitrate option is too low, or the source clips were low resolution. Compression applied by the platform you upload to adds more blockiness.

What resolution should I export CapCut videos at?

1080p is the sweet spot for most social media. Use 4K only if your footage is 4K and the platform supports it.

Can I fix a CapCut video without re-editing?

Yes, you can upload the exported file to the tool, which removes blocks and upscales it. Re-exporting from the project with better settings gives the best result, if you still have it.

Why does the video look worse on TikTok than in CapCut?

TikTok re-encodes uploads. Starting from a high-bitrate 1080p file and enabling the upload-in-high-quality setting reduces the loss.
